Prince Alexander Leonetti had never considered marrying for love.

His world was filled with duty, honor, and the crushing responsibility that came with being born royal. He lived his life for the Leonetti Family and for the people of Monrovia.

Marrying for love didn't matter.

Until Alex met Sarah.

Sarah Abernathy had never believed in fairy tales. She had learned the hard way about wishing for things that she could never have - her broken heart bore the scars to prove it.

And then Sarah met Prince Alex Leonetti.

Sparks fly as Alex and Sarah embark upon a forbidden love affair that causes them to question even their deepest convictions about love. As the world conspires against them, Alex and Sarah fight for what matters most.

True love matters.

And sometimes, fairy tales do come true.

**Royal can be read as a stand alone book or as the second book in the Royal The Leonetti Princes Series. My books are full length novels with happy endings and no pesky cliffhangers at the end.

Royal Royal The Leonetti Princes Book 2 edition by Jemma Grey Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews

The premise was fun but the book really didn't feel very fleshed out at all. All of the major hurdles, once known, were resolved within a paragraph. I was a little annoyed at the excessive use of "gifted" and "cattily" but that seemed to clear up by the second half of the book.

But, let's be honest, are you reading a royal romance for its depth and realism? No. It wasn't the cheesiest one I've read and it certainly wasn't terrible. It was a simple fantasy with insta-love (though not insta-sex) about a regular, hardworking american girl who becomes a princess.
I loved this story. It was a sweet love story. I loved Sarah and Alex. I have to laugh when I read other reviewers complain that the story isn't realistic. Of course this doesn't necessarily happen in real life, but isn't that the point of romances? If I want cold reality I'll read the news! Alex really was Prince Charming. I highly recommend this book if you are looking for a sweet daydream of a romance.
There are times when icing can be a bit sweet when taken in quantity. Like this example this book really does lay the love and fairy tale on in massive amounts. So if you like piling in icing even though your tongue is rebelling, you may be able to ingest this love story with little skepticism. The book is sound, the topic somewhat cliche but the story does hold together well and is consistent. So while I love romance, these characters were a bit too naive and love intense for my tastes. However perhaps the author will consider a bit more realism with a good storyline into the Matthias character....Love can conquer all but it doesn't have to leave a bad after taste a long the way.
We all know that romance books follow a pretty typical arch; main characters meet, sexual and or/emotional tension builds, there is some sort of conflict, the conflict is resolved, characters live happily ever after (often translating to marriage and a baby). Very few romance books stray from this tried and true path and even less do it successfully. I am happy to report that while Jemma Grey’s Royal doesn’t stray from this arch in the strict sense, it sure does move the boundaries. And it does it well!

The storyline itself isn’t unfamiliar; attractive American journalist meets gorgeous European prince. They fall in love. His family isn’t happy. Journalist is threatened. Both characters seriously consider ending it. Threat neutralized. Family gets on board. Happy ending ensues. What is unfamiliar is the timeline for each plot element and the details throughout the story.

The falling in love/romantic build up portion of this story takes about half the book. Aside from laying some minor groundwork for the coming conflict, there is nothing but joyous falling in love for the entire first half. I actually started to wonder if any sort of conflict was coming. I’m sure that in a literature sense this is probably a faux pas and if not done correctly it would have been annoying, but I actually enjoyed it. I can’t say that there weren’t a few parts I didn’t skimmed through, but overall I found this portion of the book enjoyable because it was relatable. Anyone who has fallen in love fast with someone not entirely expected will find themselves reminiscing on their own romance as they read.

When the conflict does come it doesn’t play out as expected. There were several times where I expected the usual dramas to happen, only to have characters make decisions that were more sensible, and actually closer aligned to what real people might do. There was also one point where in any other story something drastic would have happened when the character made an unsafe decision, but instead she came through unscathed. The minor plot twists (or lack thereof) were refreshing.

The overall theme of this book was falling in love fast and following your heart over your head. The author was able to weave this theme throughout the book in an authentic and enjoyable way. I found myself reminded of when my husband and I first started dating, and because of that this story was engaging and totally enjoyable
Oh My Gigai, I am now light headed from too much inhalation of prince Alex's cologne! Well, imagine inhaling it on every other page of this book!

Spoiler ahead!

Alex was third in line for the throne on Mon..something, Monrovia, sorry -er.. who fell in love with Sarah, a commoner from New York. They had a long distance relationship and had their ups and downs with the royal family not to mention the paparazzi until Sarah find out about Alex's engagement. To be honest, I am most interested to Matthias, the Crown Prince, story than Alex's and Sarah's. I think Matthias' story has something to tell and I'm looking forward to read about him in the future books of Ms. Grey.

This is an okay book for me, a simple read, nothing much happened until the last quarter of the book which I think is very much predictable. The concept of the book could have been explored, I think it has potential albeit the common plot, I felt the last quarter of the book was done in haste to give the whole story a twist.

Will I recommend this book? Uhm, like I said it's an easy read, this doesn't have the angst I favor in a book like I want to scratch the eyes of the female antagonist, this book doesn't have the heartaches I feel when the characters were sad or aching, or the usual tightness in my gut when I read emotional dialogues between the protagonists, so I guess if you just want something light to read or you want a break from those books that make you look like a zombie in the morning because you tried to finish it at two in the morning then this is okay. Just be warned about Prince Alex's cologne in every other pages, you might get intoxicated. Heh.
I thought the story flowed nicely. I wasn't too impressed with the conflict created, I thinking it lacked originality. There's always ex girlfriend drama. But it kept me interested and I loved the characters!
I had hoped this book would have been better than the first. It was a LITTLE BIT better but not much!
